Laser distance sensor works by measuring the distance from your ride height relative to ground. They emit a visible red dot that is used by the sensor to calculate the distance. This particular sensor has a measuring range of 4″ to 78.5″ and a fast refreshing rate of 50 millisecond. The measurement are converted to a 0-5V signal that any aftermarket ECU can read. This signal can then be used to retard or cut ignition timiCng when the ride height is too high for a smooth wheel down action, or to datalog chassis/suspension movement.
These sensor also have a PNP output that can be set to turn on and off at a given height. This output can be used if you can’t work with a 0-5V signal for timing retard. IE some MSD ignition box have an input that can be grounded for timing retard and this sensor can be used to trigger the MSD box timing retard features. When the height is over your set point the spark retard feature will be activated, and turned off as soon as the sensor read a lower height than the setpoint.
